On July 3rd, we hosted a backyard BBQ for all of my family that lives close by. After the feasting, the kids set up the snow cone machine and prepped for our much-anticipated "ghetto" firework display in the street.

After our street display, we anxiously awaited the South Salt Lake firework show, always deployed on the 3rd of June from Granite High School--just a few blocks south of our house. When Casey and I moved onto Best Avenue, we soon learned that
our front lawn was the appointed viewing spot for said fireworks. All of the neighbors join us for the show.
On July 4th proper, we decided on a morning family hike up Little Cottonwood Canyon on the Quarry Trail. It was ridiculously hot, so we headed for the creek.

We packed a picnic lunch and decided that this was the perfect spot for our feast.

After playing in the creek, we drove out to Newel and Karen's house to watch a little WC soccer since Brazil was playing and Newel was disgusted that I hadn't watched any of their games yet. In the late afternoon, we joined the Sullivan clan at Doug and Ilean's for some slip-and-slide action, another BBQ, and a
serious street firework display. Mike got the sweet hook-up on some legitimate aerials that kept us all on the edge of our seats, mostly because we were bombarded with firework shrapnel and smoking ashes. (I got hit with a high velocity piece of something that left a black streak all the way up my arm.) Very exciting!
