Butter and Cheese

Image
Last night Hallee didn't eat much of her dinner, which is totally NORMAL for her.  She's a skinny little thing that eats merely to survive.  I left after dinner to go up to Oakcrest girl's camp with some other stake leaders.  After Casey put the kids to bed, he headed out to the backyard to work on some stone carving projects.  When I got home, I opened the fridge and found this: Looks like Hallee got out of bed after Casey went to the backyard and secretly binged on the calories needed to sustain life.  Butter and cheese.  She went right for the good stuff.  I checked her room after I found "the evidence."  She was sleeping peacefully in her bed (with Sophie!).  Those girls!

Lost and Found!

I was at the library this week with all three kids.  When we left, we had a big pile of books, so as always, I divided the load between us.  I had Zeke with one arm and six books in the other arm--an awkward load at best!  Sophie and Hallee had a bag of books that they were responsible for getting to the van.  The trek to the van involved much moaning.  Needing one hand to open the van door, I set my pile of books on the roof of the van, then proceeded to quickly buckle everyone into their seats.  Lots of crying scrambles my brain waves and I totally forgot about the books on the van.  We pulled out of the parking lot and heard a thump as we crossed a sizable dip.  I quickly looked behind me and saw nothing.  The girls kept talking about the sound and we when we were halfway home, I realized that I'd left the books on the roof and that they were probably in that dip by the library parking lot.  So I hurried and turned arou...

Aiming High

Yesterday Casey was out carving numbers into a piece of limestone.  The girls were so interested that he set each of them up with their own stones and chisels and they all went to work.  I was getting everyone ready for church today and asked Sophie where Hallee was.  She replied, "Oh, she's out carving her stone."  I then asked Sophie if she and her sister were going to be famous stone carvers someday.  Sophie said no.  I asked her if she'd like to be a mommy someday.  Another short reply: "No."  After a few more moments, Sophie turned to me and said in a soft voice, "I want to work at Arctic Circle."  Casey and I are teaching our girls to aim high!

The FIRST egg!

Image
Last night Casey slept out on the trampoline with the girls. The full moon prompted the sleep out and the full moon was SURELY responsible for the surprise of this morning: the first egg! We bought three Ameraucanas (they lay "easter eggs"--blue, green, and pinky-orange colored eggs) at the end of February and today was the day that one of those little ladies produced. A smallish blue one! Of course, Hallee in her excitement cracked it on the way into the house. Now it sits in a little glass cup, awaiting the frying pan. Hallee kept begging, "please mommy, cook my eggie." I insisted that she finish her half-eaten bowl of granola first. If you know Hallee, it could be a while before she eats that egg!

The beginning . . .

Okay. We've officially started a family BLOG. That word, by the way, appears in a Dr. Suess book that is WAY older than the Internet.
