A Whole Lot of Crazy!

Image
If you examine this picture carefully, you can see a big patch of missing shingles on the roof of the Sullivan's little house on Best Avenue.  That crazy windstorm a week and a half ago is to blame.  Naughty wind.  So we hatched this crazy idea that we could gather a few friends and family members and "repair this ourselves."  Last Wednesday I hauled the kids down to a roofing supply place, forked out nearly $2,000 and ordered everything that we'd need.  (I could tell it was a shocker for the rough workin' man-types to see a housewife and her little people ordering a big load of roofing materials, but they all smiled and were VERY nice to us.  They even made us hot chocolate.)  Last Thursday I had a big dumpster delivered to our front yard.  Last Friday Casey, one of our our home teachers (Roy Brown), a friend from our neighborhood (Todd Miller), and myself climbed onto the roof and cleaned every last shingle off.  (Ilean watched...

Going to Oz

We THOUGHT we were (going to Oz that is)!  The winds blew mightily last week and during the big windstorm, we lost part of our roof.  Our shingles were scattered all around our house, all around our neighbor Stan's house, and even up on HIS roof.  The roof needed replacing, but we were hoping to wait until next spring to do the big job.  (Haven't we put ENOUGH time into this house lately?)  Alas, the large patch of exposed plywood on our roof speaks otherwise.  We decided that NOW was the time to tear off the old and put down the new.  Any brothers or brother-in-laws (or anyone else) that need something to do Friday afternoon  are invited to our house for the pull-down party.  We have some friends (professional roofing types) that are coming Saturday to put the new shingles down, but we're looking for some Friday laborers starting around noon.  Who's in?
