January and February 2021. Moving On.
On the first day of the new year, 2021, we packed up two haul sleds with all of our gear and skied (Casey and Helen), walked (Sophie, Hallee, Zeke, and sometimes Lindy), or rode (Sean and sometimes Lindy) 4.5 miles up to the Big Water Yurt that sits at the top of Millcreek Canyon Road in the winter months. Going to this yurt is a special experience. It's extremely hard to reserve (a season's worth of reservations evaporate in about 2 minutes when the website opens up in November). We'd reserved a date last year only to have it cancelled because of COVID. The date we had was a weekday in April--all I could get during the open reservation frenzy. The cool thing was that this year when reservations opened, we got to take first pick of dates since our reservation was nixed last season, hence the sweet New Year's Day weekend hook-up. The ski in was beautiful and the kids handled it well (mostly). Sean outright refused to walk at all, so he rode atop a fully packed haul sled...
