June and July--2019

After my ill-fated ski accident in March and the ensuing ankle and foot problems, I was doubtful that I'd be able to run the marathon that Casey and I had signed up for back in January--the Huntsville Marathon, happening in September. I'd given myself a cut-off day (the end of May) and if I couldn't run a mile without pain by then, I'd give my race registration away. Alas, at the very end of May, I could finally run a bit without my foot and ankle doing weird things, so I started to ramp up my mileage week by week. Last week we peaked at 23 miles and Casey and I are on track to actually do this. I did lose a toenail to a half-marathon run down Big Cottonwood Canyon at the end of July, but other than that the training has been going fairly well. This has been such a dry, hot summer, that when this rain came, the kids were out soaking themselves bodily. Making pavement shadows.
